Playstation System
The Playstation 2 or PS2, is a game console that is successor to the PlayStation and the predecessor of the Playstation 3. It was developed and designed by Sony. Playstation 2 was released in Japan, one year after the announcement of its development in March 1999.
So far, PlayStation 2 is the best selling video game console. Sale of the Playstation 2 touched a whopping 120 million mark in 2007. Just after 5 years and 9 months after its launch, Playstation 2 sales reached 100 million units, making it the fastest selling video game console.
Initially, when the console was launched in 2000, there were `t impressive game titles available to it. But in December 2001, a series of best-selling and critically acclaimed game titles were released for the Playstation 2, which helped Playstation 2 to maintain leadership in the market for gaming consoles. In most cases, the makers of Playstation 2 made exclusive agreements with publishers of game titles to stay ahead in the console market.

Playstation 2 is backwards compatible with Playstation when it comes to hardware compatibility. You can read CDs and DVDs. Video Playback DVD is another feature of the Playstation 2. Playstation games can also play online multiplayer games. A network adapter is required for this. This is an integrated component in the new model, but with other models the consumer has to buy it. These special features make the PlayStation 2 in a big hit with children and adults alike.
